WHITE FLOWERS DAY BY DAY

We tuned in to Preston's White Flowers when they unveiled 'Portra', their ghostly A-side for Tough Love Records back in February. Yesterday the duo announced another 12" via the on-point London label. Floating through a thick, gothic haze on 'Day by Day' vocalist Katie Drew's airy vocals echo the good work of fellow goosebump-inducing vocalists Beth Gibbons, Bilinda Butcher and even Elizabeth Fraser. Sitting at almost 8 minutes, the atmosphere feels heavy and almost suffocating at points, which, given the lyrical content makes a lot of sense. the band explain: "'Day by Day' was actually written a few years ago but has taken on an eerie relevance in light of current events. As the title suggests, the song explores living in the present moment as a way of overcoming difficulties and growing stronger. Written during a dark time in our lives the song is about the struggle of carrying on, taking each day at a time in hope that things will eventually get better". 'Day by Day' will be available for physical purchase with a cover of Red House Painters’ 'Katy Song' on the 8th of May. -Holly Mullineaux
